Incorporating family cultures and traditions

I have four beautiful children and although I am White British and my husband is Asian British his mother and father were from India and Pakistan. We often find that living in the United Kingdom and now the USA we subconsciously adopt a more Western lifestyle. This is what works for us, but I am aware that family traditions and Cultures are also very important to give the children a much wider diverse understanding of the world. In this blog I thought it would be fun to share with you some of the things we do as a family to bring a little East to our West.

Firstly we love to cook Indian sweets. There is a great simple recipe at

We also love to play with henna designs, especially when we have some fun body paint. You can get ideas from the web at….

Dressing up is always fun and we can find many clothes that resemble Indian attire around the house. T – Towels make great head scarves and long T- shirts with leggings make brilliant shalwar kameez  (traditional Indian wear for men and women).

Coloring is a very much a favorite thing to do and I have coloring sheets from my books, Aisha the Indian Princess Series. Please enjoy a few pages to print.

I hope you enjoy these activities, see you again soon.
